As the Leaves start to change and our mornings get chillier we know that Fall is near. I just love this time of year. Pack away the shorts and swimsuits and out with the sweaters, boots and Nuxiemade Beanies. For me, it's a time of change. While,I love my sunny so cal days. I just love the Fall days here at the Beach. Breezy, chilly, and scent of salty ocean in the air. But really, I just love to design the Fall/Winter Line of Kait Emerson Designs. This year I thought I would have a little fun and do a Mini Punk Collection/Nuxiemade Collaboration to start off the Season. At every Art Fair I do, I always sell out of the One-of-Kind Punk Items. Rather than limit them to just those that attend the art shows I do such as Patchwork and Unique LA to name a few. I thought I offer them to all my Fans near & far.

So when it came time to Shoot the Mini Punk Collection

Oh My! I'm so excited to share with you tonight.You've all seen her work before in my past collections. Found here and here . I am thrilled about this latest session. I contacted my friend Theresa over at Lollipops & Slingshots Photography to shoot some of the Kait Emerson Designs spring line. So, the images arrived and I instantly loaded the images.. In my mind I thought to myself, "What did she come up with this time". Hmmm.. Love that anticipation! Like a child at Christmas. As usual, I was just blown away with what she delivered.Theresa is amazingly talented and so creative in so many ways. And sweet little Peyton.. My Goodness! Can she get any more Darling? The girl just Shines!

Spring is coming...

More Spring on the way.. I'm going to continue posting pictures of the new KED Collection as they come in. Today, I was lucky enough to spend some time in the park with the kids, Kait's BFF Bella and her Mom; Dee. Oh!it was such a gorgeous day here in OC. We had sky blue skies and big, fluffy white clouds and the grass everywhere was so green. It was just beautiful! What better day to do a quick KED Shoot. I was so excited and giddy Bella was on board to model.
Kait however, was not feeling it today..She advised me that she didn't want to model. Well...OK then.. We have darling Bella to steal the Spotlight. So off we went to have a little fun! This is another fabulous piece from the Spring Collection. This grow with me Pillow Dress is must have for this spring Season. Beautiful pastels with a vintage, modern print. We completed the outfit with a sweet flower headband from the ever so wonderful NuxieMade.

Oh my!! it sure does feel like a long time since I've posted and I'm way behind on the Blog..I've been spreading myself thin and super busy with the Kids, Weddings & getting back in top shape; last but not least finalizing the KED Spring Collection. I know everyone is eager to see what I'm doing for this Collection "Swell." I just love that name and looking at this collection I just think Swell.. It will have my signature Modern fabrics, and Lots,Lots of Color! You all know I love Color, mixing fabrics & textures. Today I thought I'd pop in and post a few designs from the collection.. Lots more coming.. I'm hoping to launch in early March.. I would love to do is sooner but my Best Friends is getting married and what better place.. Baby Loves Disco

I'm headed to the Disco.. Yep, Baby Loves Disco is coming to Orange County this Saturday, Nov 14th and it's a Pajama Party. Bring the kiddos in they're favorite PJ's. The event is from 2-5pm and is being held at the Shark Club in Costa Mesa CA. Bring the Family and have a little fun. I LOVE working with new people.. For the Kait Emerson Fall line I was lucky enough to work with another fantastic Photographer who's located right here in Sunny So Cal. Kristin of Blue Sky's Studio was nice enough to accept my request to shoot several pieces from the KED Fall Line.. Kristin and our darling model Hannah headed south to shoot these lovely pieces at the San Juan Capistrano Train Station.. I just love the composition of Kristin pics and I love her style of photography. She certainly had a touch with our sweet Hannah.. Can't get any sweeter than this.

You all have seen her work in past when she did a Product shoot for Kait Emerson last year! I just had to include her in the Fall 09 line up of photographers to shoot KED this season. I was honored and just so, so thrilled when she accepted my request to shoot some pieces for me. If you haven't seen the work of Theresa Willerford; Owner/photographer of Lollipops& Slingshots photography you will simply melt when you see her work. Her creativity, styling, and use of natural lightning is absolutely Amazing! I was overcome with joy when I got the images from this shoot. I think you will agree.. We wouldn't have the pleasure of viewing such great shots without the help of our adorable model Peyton! Oh!!! I was just floored! She is just precious. Too many words to describe how dang cute she is. I mean those Eyes and that Hair!!

Today the Kids & I headed north to the Grove in LA. We wanted to take the Kids to American Girl before they head back to Pre-school next week. I think I was in Awh just as must as Kait was.What a Unbelievable store. I mean WOW!. They had it all from hair Salon to cafe to Made to match clothing for the girls and Dolls. Shawn however was not so thrilled. He was more intrigued with the Trolley on the Street. If you get a chance and have a little girl you gotta take her there. I can't wait to have a outing with Kait and her friends when she's a alittle older. Boy was Kait in Heaven

Wedding Season! Congrats to Brian & Lilly!

Yes, it's been way to long since I've posted a entry. As always I'm swamped and rushing around with way too many things to do on my list. I somehow always seem to get it done. Most of this last month I've been consumed with My Uncle Brian's wedding. I'd like to say wedding of the yr. Married is long time friend Lilly, and now my Aunt. I'm so excited and certainly welcome her to the family. Lilly is just a amazing and perfect for him. to share a little background, Both in there early 50's, both never been married, No children by choice and have known eachother since they were teenagers. Just crazy how they reconnected several years ago and knew after a few dates they were meant for each other. So after a yr of planning they we're finally married.. Exciting stuff for my family and we are just overjoyed for both of them..

Kait and Shawn were both honored to be part of there wedding day! Don't they look Darling.

So on top of Wedding to do's I've been working on lots a new Pieces for the Fall Line. As Pics a start to roll in I will begin to share..

US Open Of Surfing Hits Huntington Beach

So I am finally caught up with all Kait Emerson orders and taking a brief hiatus to spend some quality time this summer with the Kids and to finish up on the new designs for fall. I hope to open the Etsy Shop back up in a few weeks. I have lots of adorable pieces to introduce. I know your just going to love them... SO hold tight & stay tuned for KED updates.. Today we had some fun.. at the US Open of Surfing here in Huntington Beach..
Every year in late July I look forward to hitting the beach to watch Pro-Surfers from near and far compete to win the Champion title of the US Open of Surfing. Today, the kids & I hit the beach early before the thousands of people flock to the beach to watch. This weekend the amount of visitors the city will have will be well over 100,000. For the last 8 years we lived in the heart of the Dwtn HB area; walking distance to the action. This made going to the event a whole lot more convenient & less stressful. No parking issues to deal with and close enough to take the kids home quickly if need be. Today however, Driving the 10 min worked out just fine.

In addition, to all the surf action there is also the Festival area which was changed up a bit this year. We are getting ready to celebrate the 4th of July. Here in HB this is the biggest holiday celebration every yr.The Morning starts out with the Surf City 5K Run, Followed by a pancake breakfast and then the Parade. Tons of people decked out in red, white, blue flock to our little town to see the Surf City Parade and Grand Fireworks show. 2009 represents the 100th yr of the Parade.

Lately, I have been really inspired by alot of my photographer friends to hone in and sharpen up on my photography skills. I truly believe with with focus, research and more time with the camera in my hand I can make heaps of improvement and even WOW myself. My Camera of choice currently is a Canon EOS 40D.I Love, Love, Love it! I have a variety of lenses to work with and thought I should get them out an play.So over the weekend Me and the Kids had a little fun! Photo shoot fun that is. Here are a few shots of the Kids I took on Saturday!

I know, I know I am way behind in updating the Blog. I've been taking a little time away from Kait Emerson to spend a little more time with the kids & family. The Family & I spent the Memorial Day weekend at my parents vacation home at the Colorado River in Arizona.This was really our 1st trip away with the kids. Spite the 5 hour car ride getting there; they absolutely LOVED it!

Shawn was just thrilled to ride in the Polaris.

Kait, the thrill seeker had no fear riding in the boat. Shawn he didn't really care for the loud engine.

We all had a a very nice weekend enjoying time together in sunshine out on the boat relaxing with our family. I really didn't know what to do with myself having no sewing machine to run to. I can't remember the last time I went w/out sewing for 3 days. I'm not use to sitting around relaxing; I recall telling my Mom. "I'm kinda bored. and don't know what to do with myself". No sewing machine or PC. I was way out of my element. I really couldn't sit still.

So back home and ready dig in and get back to work.

Busy..Busy..Busy... That's what I am. Planning parties for both the Kids, ballet classes, Preparing for Spring Fling Carnival event and working those Kait Emerson Designs orders. Kait Emerson had a AMAZING response to the Sale in honor of Kait's Birthday and the Earth Day Sale.. Now I'm plenty busy playing catch up trying to get all orders finished and shipped timely. Unfortunately, that past several days everyone in my household (for the exception of me) has had the awful case of the flu. Boy has it been exhausting with 2 toddlers both sick.. Thanks goodness & a big sigh of relief they're getting over it. After being cooped up in the house for 4 days I thought it would be nice to get the kids out for some fresh air. We headed down to the beach to have a little fun in the Sun..

We are moved and finally getting settled into our new home. Both the Kids & I are loving it. Scott my Husband has been busy with ongoing projects around the house. And I've been busy getting the House and new studio workspace in order.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission gives a preliminary OK to exempt some items from testing after complaints of hardship to thrift stores and sellers of handmade toys.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has given preliminary approval to changes in new lead-testing rules after complaints that the measures could have forced thrift stores and sellers of handmade toys to dispose of merchandise or even go out of business.

If formally adopted, the changes approved on a first vote Tuesday would grant exemptions to last year's Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act, which seeks to ensure that products for children do not contain dangerous amounts of lead.

As currently written, the act would require all products aimed at children 12 and under to be tested for lead and phthalates starting Feb. 10. Phthalates are chemicals used to make plastics more pliable.

Large manufacturers and retailers say the cost of testing will not be a burden. But small businesses such as handmade-toy shops and thrift stores say the requirement would force them to spend tens of thousands of dollars to test products such as clothing, in which the threat of lead is almost nonexistent. Many thrift stores said they would be forced to stop selling children's clothing or close altogether.

The commission's two members (a third seat is vacant) voted tentatively to exempt:

* Items with lead parts that a child cannot access;

* Clothing, toys and other goods made of natural materials such as cotton and wood; and

* Electronics that are impossible to make without lead.

The commission also tentatively approved a rule that clarifies how it determines exclusions from the law.

The vote opens up a 30-day public comment period that will begin when notice of the rules are printed in the Federal Register. Interested parties can find out how to submit comments by signing up to receive e-mail from the CPSC at www.cpsc.gov .

No final rules will be approved until after Feb. 10, when the testing rules go into effect.

That means retailers and manufacturers who sell untested children's merchandise would technically be in violation of the new law starting Feb. 10. Whether federal regulators will enforce the rules -- which might entail inspections at thousands of secondhand stores and toy shops across the country -- is another question.

"The CPSC is an agency with limited resources and tremendous responsibility to protect the safety of families," said Scott Wolfson, a CPSC spokesman. "Our focus will be on those areas we can have the biggest impact and address the most dangerous products."
